About the VDE E-Race

Built by Formula Student people, for Formula Student teams.

The VDE E-Race is an annual pre-event in Northern Germany, tailored to the needs of Formula Student teams. It serves as the optimal preparation for the official competitions in the summer – organised by former team members who offer exactly the support they would have wished for during their own active time.

And yes: with a lot of Spaß und Liebe.

Our story

Shaping Formula Student from the other side

The skills and passion gained during their active time at Formula Student led 20 motivated alumni in 2017 to shape Formula Student from the other side. The VDE-Race 2.0 was born.

Previously, the VDE-Race was mainly organised by Dirk Sasson, who is still an active part of the VDE E-Race today. Since then, the event has become a fixed date in the season of many teams – organised by VDE Region Nord e.V. at the StroamCamp in Schwedt/Oder.

The E-Race is our main event – but not the only one. With ESO Qualification Trainings, the Norddeutsches Teamtreffen and the Team Captains Trip, we bring the community together all year round.

A pre-event is where you find out what works – before it really counts.

Close to the real thing

Statics and dynamics run close to the official competitions: Business Plan, Cost & Manufacturing and Engineering Design on one side, Skid Pad, Acceleration, Autocross and Endurance on the other.

Room to test

Technical inspection, test runs and honest feedback from experienced judges – so you can fix problems before they become expensive.

A community

Teams, volunteers and alumni meet at the StroamCamp. For many, the E-Race is where the season – and a few friendships – begin.

Background

New to Formula Student?

A short introduction to the competition behind the VDE E-Race.

Formula Student is much more than just a student racing competition. It is a unique platform where aspiring engineers can put their knowledge and skills to the test in a practical setting. In interdisciplinary teams, they design, build and test single-seater formula racing cars that compete against each other in various disciplines. Formula Student events are held all over the world, e.g. Formula Student Germany, Formula Student Austria, FSAE Michigan and Formula SAE Australasia.

In addition to pure speed, Formula Student is also about innovative concepts, efficient drive systems and the perfect implementation of design ideas. The teams have to learn to think entrepreneurially, manage resources and work effectively together in a team.

Participating in Formula Student is an unforgettable experience for the students. They not only learn important engineering skills, but also develop key qualifications such as teamwork, project management and presentation skills.
